Review: Thrustmaster TPR pedals

“What the actual heck is that?”. This sentence could demonstrate what crossed my mind the first time I saw the Thrustmaster TPR pedals. Such weird design!

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://www.helisimmer.com/reviews/thrustmaster-tpr-pedals/

be interesting to hear what people are thinking about these now… after they’ve been in the market for a while, vs all the other players.

think would love to see them without the entire foot/break surface, maybe just a left and right tube/bar to press, and then maybe the rear springs removed and a “friction” setting available, allowing less ring back to centre should you remove your feet.

People seem generally happy about them. I no longer have the unit (it was a loan) but I see a lot of folks recommending it.

There are other (better) options specifically for helicopters out there. VIRPIL and Komodo Simulations, for example.

But this kit still stands if you are looking for something more hybrid.

what i like about the TM TPR’s are the forward/backward movement/design, think if instead of a entire platform it had a pipe/pedal and then maybe a friction setting it could be very good…

Looking at Virpil and Komodo options, like the look of Komodo better…
any chance you’ve done a review/article on it ?

I was never able to do a proper review but I tried their gear out at an event: https://www.helisimmer.com/reviews/first-contact-komodo-simulations-controls

We also have a review on their cyclic but that wasn’t written by me: https://www.helisimmer.com/reviews/komodo-simulations-ec135-ec145-cyclic

It’s not pedals but it will let you know the quality of the products. I know Komodo is working on improving their manufacturing process with increased quality and, hopefully, reduced prices. We should hear more from them soon. I am not sure it will cover their pedals, though.

awesome looking, but i only have 2 kidneys at 500GBP’s… what’s to happen with the 3rd control…

Good is always good, but if priced so that only flight schools can afford is of no use, sadly.

Unfortunately we will always have the issue of not having enough market that will allow manufacturers to lower their price. VIRPIL ends up being able to do it since they already have an established consumer base in the fixed-wing market that allows them to reuse parts and manufacturing processes.

It’s a shame, yes. But these manufacturers struggle to keep their prices at a range that is worth for them to do it. Like I said, Komodo is working on solutions to bring the prices down. I heard it could be an interesting difference but I am not sure how much right now.
